Hameshulash theater

The LGBTQ+ Theater of Tel Aviv

An Israeli theater putting LGBTQ+ stories center stage.

HaMeshulash Theater is the LGBTQ+ theater of Tel Aviv. It was founded out of the belief that LGBTQ+ culture deserves a central place on the theatrical stage, not at its margins. The initiative was established in June 2021 by a group of young creators, under the leadership of the Tel Aviv LGBTQ Center, after identifying a clear lack of theatrical work that speaks directly to LGBTQ+ experiences while also addressing a broad general audience.

Our mission is to bring the struggles, pain, love, and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community to the stage through an original, intimate, and emotionally accessible theatrical language.

We work on a daily basis to create a cultural center where LGBTQ+ stories are at the forefront. Alongside original productions, HaMeshulash Theater hosts festivals, cultural events, educational programs, and theatrical projects that expand the conversation around identity, sexuality, and gender in both local and global contexts.

At the core of our work is the belief that theater is a powerful tool for building empathy, dismantling stereotypes, and fostering open cultural dialogue, both within the community and beyond it.

Collective Rage

The One: The Musical

An original gay musical about Grindr, Tinder, and everything in between. Currently running.

BORDERS

Beyond producing performances, HaMeshulash Theater is an integral part of Tel Aviv’s LGBTQ+ cultural movement. One of our key initiatives is the Drama Queen Festival, a multidisciplinary LGBTQ+ arts festival that brings together theater, performance art, drag, music, film, and visual art.

The festival presents original works that explore identity, love, gender, and humor through a bold, playful, and imaginative artistic language. Drama Queen takes place as part of Tel Aviv Pride Month and culminates alongside the city’s central Pride Parade. It attracts wide audiences as well as artists from the LGBTQ+ community and the broader Israeli cultural scene.
